Family In Search of Witness to Bicycle Accident
The family of injured cyclist Warren Larkin is searching for answers as to how he was injured on his bike on the afternoon of June 8, 2019. Mr. Larkin has no recollection of the wreck that left him with 10 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a fractured clavicle. Although there are no witnesses at this time, the treating hospital staff believes that the injuries sustained by Mr. Larkin were more serious than you would typically sustain from just falling off your bike, suggesting he may have been a victim of a hit and run accident. If you have any information on how this accident occurred, please contact the San Diego County Sheriff’s office.
This story is a reminder of how helpful it can be to ride with at least one other person. Not only is it more fun to have a buddy out on the road with you, it’s also safer to have someone there if you get into an accident, that can call for help ASAP and make sure you get the care that you need.
It’s also helpful to have a witness to an accident to avoid the “he-said she-said” argument that you will inevitably be up against. If you do find yourself riding alone often, it’s a good idea to invest in a small mounted video camera (like a GoPro). That way anything that happens on the road (ie. motor vehicle accident) will be recorded and preserved, whether or not you observed or recall what happened. The video footage from your bicycle may provide indisputable evidence as to how the accident occurred, which is invaluable for a lawyer who is trying to help you maximize your recovery against the negligent driver.
